Matt Groening was once known mainly for his small "Life In Hell" comic series, but in 1987 that would change. The Simpsons, Groenings cartoon family he created in 15 minutes while waiting on James L. Brooks and named completely after his family (except Bart, being an anagram for 'Brat'), first appeared as a series of 30 second shorts on Fox's Emmy winning variety show "The Tracey Ullman Show" on April 19th. In 1989, Fox gave Matt Groening's cartoon based on the adventures of the bizarre blue-collar family new life as it became a show of it's own. The show was everything that other shows at the time weren't. From the first episode in December of 1989 until 1991, the show was animated under the independent cartoon studio Klasky Csupo. Just in time for the 1992-1993 Season & beyond, it changed to be animated by Film Roman. In the year 2003, the show went through a new animation change to become painted digitally. The Simpsons has had the most guest stars and on February 9, 1997, it became the longest running cartoon with its 167th episode to dethrone The Flintstones which had aired 166 episodes and if all goes well and The Simpsons fullfils it's current contract, it will become the longest running sitcom ever, animated & live action!
